Spike Milligan
Derbyshire designer-maker Anita Spencer has designed and made this beautiful work of art, illustrating Spike Milligan’s poem for children, ‘Rain’. Anita works using sustainable materials, so this is made from recycled glass.
‘Rain’ was initially installed in the former Chucklebutties Play & Party Centre, situated by Belper North Mill’s car park, at the side of the river Derwent; this building now hosts a now a cricket club training centre. In recent years after the building became empty, some windows were vandalised so in 2024 we removed the poem for its safety. Anita is hoping to re-work it and we will find another suitable place locally in Belper to install it.
